Magazine Analysis 2
Magazine Analysis Example:
What are the conventions found in the magazine? Position of images, text, fonts, plugs, masthead, skyline, baseline, coverline, etc.
The placement of this magazine's masthead is well thought out to be recognized by the audience without taking away from the cover picture. The fonts used on the cover page, table of contents, and double page spread are consistent and work with each other to present a simplistic and neat look for the magazine. A common convention not found on this magazine is it's lack of article titles and descriptions on the cover page. However, a modern convention that I did find in this magazine is the position of images and text on the double page spread. Many magazines follow the same layout of having a picture obtaining half of the left page along with an introduction underneath it and the article on the next page. The positioning of elements on these pages make the magazine look its best. Another convention found in this magazine is a call out from the article on the double page spread. The call out represents a quote that was mentioned in the article on the other page of the double page spread.
What do the elements in the cover represent?
The elements in the cover represent the masthead and baseline text. The baseline text represents the issue of the magazine along with the publication date. The masthead represents the magazine's title, "Le Voyage"
Analyse the contents page and double page spread.
The contents page and the double page spread flow very nicely with each other in their presentations of images and texts on the page. The table of contents introduced the articles along with a small description on their contents. The left side of the double page spread neatly displayed the article in which carried over to the right page to display an image over the page along with a call out from the article.
Who is the audience for this magazine? (be specific)
The audience for this magazine is people who like travel the world and explore cities, hotels, and breathtaking destinations.
What genre is the magazine? How is this shown?
This magazine's genre is travel. This is shown in the images presented to the audience throughout the magazine. The images represent travel destinations around the world.
What features of the magazines analyzed will you use/not use in your own magazine?
In my own magazine, I will use the feature used in this magazine of a bold masthead. However, I think I will include a cover line, strapline, and baseline text on my cover, since I believe doing this will intrigue my audience to read further into the magazine. I plan to present readers with titles of articles and small descriptions of them. Also, a feature from this magazine that I will not use in my magazine is the layout of the double page spread. On the left page, I may follow a similar layout as this example in which there are multiple pictures and the article to follow underneath them. However, for the right page, I will continue the article as my double page spread will need to convey more information than this magazine's.
