Magazine Analysis 3
Magazine Analysis Example:
What are the conventions found in the magazine? Position of images, text, fonts, plugs, masthead, skyline, baseline, coverline, etc.
This magazine's cover has a bold masthead that catches the eye of the audience. The fonts used throughout the cover, table of contents, and double page spread are consistent and flow well with each other in the way they are presented to the audience. On the cover page, the baseline text displays the articles to be found within the magazine along with a tiny description on the articles. The same concept is used in the table of contents in which the article titles and page numbers are presented along with small lines of text that give a very brief description of them. This convention makes the audience want to read further into the magazine. Another convention presented in this magazine is a steady color scheme. The colors used in the different pages of the magazine match and follow each other, making the magazine as a whole look simple, neat, and appealing to the audience.
What do the elements in the cover represent?
The elements in the cover represent the masthead, strapline, and baseline text. The baseline text represents the contents that are displayed within the magazine, engaging the audience and intriguing them to read further into the magazine. The cover line represents the volume of the magazine along with the publication date.
Analyse the contents page and double page spread.
The contents page and the double page spread flow very nicely with each other in their presentations of images and texts on the page. The table of contents introduced the articles along with a small description on their contents. The left side of the double page spread neatly displayed the article that continued to a new topic on the right side with multiple images to further the audience's engagement.
Who is the audience for this magazine? (be specific)
The audience for this magazine is people who like travel and be outdoors, as well as people who like to go hiking in the mountains.
What genre is the magazine? How is this shown? This magazine's genre is travel. This is shown in the images as they represent mountain, hiking, and travelling sceneries.
What features of the magazines analyzed will you use/not use in your own magazine? In my own magazine, I will use the features of a bold masthead along with lines of text for the baseline. I believe this is an effective way in getting the audience to read further into the magazine. I will present articles along with small descriptions on my cover page as this magazine did. The only feature I do not think I will use from this magazine is how the double page spread lacks multiple pictures. For my own magazine, I think I will have multiple different pictures to represent my double page spread article, instead of how this magazine only presented audiences with 3 very similar pictures to look at.
