First Table of Contents
- How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
My product challenges conventions of a typical nature magazine by focusing on the activity of hiking trails and the thoughts and processes that connect to it, rather than solely focusing on scenery in nature. On the other hand, my product reflects the normal nature magazine by portraying nature scenery for the reader to view. The articles and pictures on my table of contents represent social groups who like the outdoors and going hiking. Ultimately, the pictures and articles intrigue the audience to read more by presenting attractive article titles and a glimpse into the beauty displayed in the articles. In addition, my product challenges conventions by not including descriptions about what the articles will be about. Upon the development of this page, I plan to hopefully find a way to include this information without crowding the page.
- How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My table of contents engages with audiences by slightly altering the various sizes of article titles to add extra significance to those articles. These larger sized titles are the same articles that are featured on the cover of my magazine. The simple and uncluttered layout makes it easier for readers to find articles in the table of contents and therefore navigate through the magazine. Additionally, the page numbers in the bottom right corners of the pictures help engage the audience by giving them something to look at as a representation of the articles. This appeals to the audience and gets them interested in the contents of the magazine, which will provoke them to keep reading.
